Responding To Challenges In The Chinese Healthcare Market - Part II Local product procurement

  • Made in China 2025 identified the healthcare sector as a key focus for more local procurement.

  • Huge reduction seen in imports of mid- to high-end medical devices, with some categories falling by up to 20%.

  • Multinationals must either further invest in China factories, or pursue an acquisition strategy to ensure they have the necessary local production capability, or pursue a mix of both.

  • If a multinational already has its own major operations in China it is likely to have more leverage and buy-in from head office to invest in its own plant.
